In Loving Memory of Gerald L. Warren

December 9, 1961 - January 11, 2021

Gerald (Jerry) L. Warren was born on December 9, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, the fifth of seven children of Pastor Clinton and Frances Warren. Reared as a "Preacher's Kid" in an Adventist home, he was taught throughout his childhood to love God supremely and to be engaged in the life of the church. This solid spiritual foundation would carry and guide him throughout his life.

Jerry benefitted from Christian education at Los Angeles Union SDA School and graduated from Hamilton High School. He matriculated through Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, and subsequently earned his Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies at National University of California.

Professionally, Jerry managed the Law Offices of Tucker Allen, but he ultimately found his niche and became a proud funeral director at Harrison-Ross Mortuaries in Los Angeles, which he regarded as a ministry to serve grieving families. Overshadowing Jerry's various professional roles, however, was his insatiable passion for music and ministry.

Jerry was best known across the nation as an iconic gospel musician and music minister, serving various congregations in Southern California. As Minister of Music at the Breath of Life SDA Church of greater Los Angeles, he built a diverse musical powerhouse over the span of two decades. Not only did Jerry inspire the creation of choirs and vocal ensembles and amassed teams of exceptional praise singers and talented instrumentalists, he also imported outstanding solo artists and groups across a spectrum of genres to enrich and diversify the worship experience for everyone. One of Jerry's crowning achievements was the release of BOL's "Excellence" CD, which was quite appropriately named to represent and showcase the church's excellent musical talent and artistry. Jerry was the inspiration behind the project and served as co-executive producer.

Jerry's passion for ministry far transcended music. At BOL, he was a dedicated Church Elder and Church Board Member and was also an innovative leader of men's and prayer ministries.

Beyond BOL, Jerry also dedicated his talents for the advancement and support of evangelism in the Southern California SDA Conference via evangelistic campaigns and revival services. Moreover, his musical footprint expanded far beyond Adventism to bless congregations in the broader community of faith, including Chapel of Peace Community Church, St. Rest Friendship Church, and Park Windsor Baptist Church.

Admired and highly regarded by peers, churches, and musical organizations, Jerry was honored by many, including Musicians In Action of Los Angeles (Music Ministry Award) and the Southern California SDA Conference Greater Los Angeles Region (Music Ministry Award).

On the personal side, Jerry was a loving husband of 35 years to Robin Wilson-Warren, who was "his rock" and supportive partner in ministry. He was a devoted father to Richeé Holman and her husband, Johnny, Sr., and a doting granddad to Giah and Johnny, Jr. They are joined by a host of family members to mourn his passing and celebrate his legacy, including his siblings, Clinton (Regina) Warren, Phillip (Diane) Warren, Fred Warren, Nell Marie Warren, Carol (Eric) Todd, and Byron Warren; aunts and uncles; brothers-and-sisters-in law; nephews and nieces; godchildren; and a host of friends and loved ones.
