Cathleen Janice Bennett was born to Constance Bennett on July 10, 1946, at Los Angeles County General Hospital in Boyle Heights, CA. She was the eldest of seven children. Cathleen accepted Christ at 8 years of age, at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in East Los Angeles under the leadership of Pastor Kelly. During her time at Mount Carmel, she served as the Usher Board President, Youth President, and ministered in the Young People Choir. She attended and graduated from Jefferson High School Class of 1964.

Cathleen was introduced to the love of her life, David A. Lee through her brother and they later married on June 2, 1968. To this union, four children were born.

She worked as a Cashier at Goldman's Department Store and later served as a Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service. Cathleen had many interests, which included: doing hair, dancing, cooking, and singing in the Church Choir.
