Talmadge McCloria was born in Charleston, Mississippi on January 18, 1945, to the parents of Provine Sr. and Alberta McCloria. He comes from a family of five siblings: Thomas, Provine Jr., Talmadge, Maria and Willie Ray. Family and friends referred to Talmadge McCloria as "Sunny," "Bear," and "Shot."
Many years after his father passed his family moved to Los Angeles which was in the 1960's. Sunny graduated from Manual Arts High School and moved forward to pursue his career in the tech service field of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. As a young man, Sunny always placed family first. His role models were his mother and grandparents. A few years later at the age of 21, he met and married Linda Carol Harris. Both he and his wife Linda had three children, Lela, Craig, and Shawn. His life was filled with work and taking good care of his family.
Sunny had a great work ethic and believed that education was the key to success. He invested his time and resources to continue his education at Los Angeles Trade Technical College and other various technician training schools. He further his education to be among the best in his service industry field; he studied to become the first black service technician in Commercial Refrigeration. People knew when they saw his "Blue Van" coming down the streets of Los Angeles, Sunny was the man to get the job done.
He serviced numerous restaurant franchises, grocery food chains, the Los Angeles Airport and a plethora of businesses throughout Southern California who required air condition and refrigeration. Sunny was highly respected, a man of great character and integrity. He received a plethora of awards and certifications due to his work ethics and craftsmanship. He believed that you must always get the job done and place the customer first. He serviced businesses from downtown Los Angeles, Ventura County and throughout Southern California for over 50 years. He was a dedicated service technician who always solved problems within the refrigeration and air condition business for Commercial Refrigeration, now known as Hussmann Commercial Refrigeration.
He received numerous awards and certifications for his success in the business of refrigeration and air condition over the past 20 years: National ITC Corporation Testing Certification, 25-Year Membership Certificate presented for appreciation of your long-term contribution to the ideals and objectives of the United Association, the National Inspection Testing Certification as Refrigeration Fitter approved by the National ITC Corporation Examination Board, Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship Air-conditioning & Refrigeration, Certificate of Certified P.I.P.E Journeyman-IR Climate Control HUSSMAN and was presented with the Recognition of Achieving Five Years Perfect Attendance in Apprenticeship Training 1982. In addition, Talmadge "Sunny" McCloria received the Apartment Association, California Southern Property Management Training Program certification approved by The Los Angeles Housing Department.
Numerous family members and friends marveled over the mere fact that Mr. Talmadge "Sunny" McCloria never took a vacation and always showed up to work every day until he retired. His motto that he always shared with his daughter, never give up and do your best work while you live. Go to school and learn something new each year, be good to all people, do not worry about what anyone says that is negative about you " keep your head clear, and your heart focused. His son, Craig was inspired and guided by his father to stay focused on whatever you do. Make sure to do one thing at a time and don't be in a hurry. He always stated to Craig "Do What God Loves."
Today, we celebrate the life of Talmadge "Sunny" McCloria. His life will always be remembered forever. His sunset was on Friday, August 17, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Provine Sr. and Alberta McCloria, his wife, Linda Carol Harris, and his son, Shawn McCloria.
He is survived by three children: Lela C. McCloria, Craig P. McCloria, and Shawnte McCloria; his14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren: Maleiyah and Meyah; and two siblings, Provine Jr. and his sister, Maria Guillory, two nieces, two nephews and a host of cousins who will always cherish the time he lived among us all here in Los Angeles, California. Talmadge McCloria leaves a host of relatives and friends. We give a special thank you to his longtime friend and companion, Ms. Debbie Averette who stood by our father's side til his sunset.
