In Loving Memory of Thomas Harris
January 8, 1938 - July 23, 2018
Thomas Harris was born January 8, 1938, in Rosedale, Louisiana, to Louise Taylor-Harris and Nathaniel Harris Sr., Thomas became affectionally known as "Tom."
Both parents, his two brothers, Nathaniel Harris Jr., and Clinton Harris Sr., his sister, Orela Harris have all preceded him in death.
Tom received his early education from the Rosedale, Louisiana Public Schools. He embraced Catholicism at an early age and became a devout Catholic.
Tom seemed to be born with a "go get it" personality. He decided at the age of 17 to join the Navy, serving honorably for four years. He visited many ports around the world. His last duty was in San Diego, CA, living the life a Sailor.
After leaving the Navy he moved to Los Angeles, California where he met and later married Lola Mae Thomas, they remained married for over 58 years. From this union four children were born, Thomas Jr., Brian, Gretchen, and Sonya.
Tom returned to school and earned his High School Diploma, attended Jr. College became a Barber, took a Bar Tending course, in between learning to be "Mr. Fix-it." He would tackle any project, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, etc., along with his regular jobs. Later he became an employee of General Telephone Company, as a Cable Splicer Apprentice. After years of hard work and dedication, he was promoted to Foreman, where he remained in this position in the early 70's until he became ill, forcing him into retirement.
July 23, 2018, marked the blessed transition of life, Tom leaves to cherish and share his memories with his wife Lola T. Harris, four children: Thomas Harris Jr., Brian Harris, Sonya Harris all of California and Gretchen Harris of Louisiana, one brother, Lionel Harris (Beatrice) of California, one uncle, George Taylor (Helen), three aunts: Dorothy Taylor Dorsey, Mildred Harris, and Lillie Mae Taylor from Louisiana; six grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of cousins, relatives, extended family and friends.
