In Loving Memory of Bessie Lollis

June 5, 1935 - July 8, 2018

Bessie Lee Richard Lollis was born to the union of Nannie Lee Mays Richard and Binder Lollis on June 5, 1935. She was the youngest of eight children. She was educated in the Texarkana, Texas School District. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Bessie decided to move West to Los Angeles, California with her children, Dorothy and Willie, they made Los Angeles, California home in 1959. Later her son Earl was born. When she arrived in Los Angeles, she immediately secured membership with the Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church; under the leadership of Pastor Earnest Cornell Johnson.

Bessie made a commitment to studying the word and was involved in many other church activities. She participated in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, she assisted the Culinary Ministry and Senior Fellowship. She served as a dedicated Usher for many years and was faithful in worship services until her health failed.

Bessie was employed in the Housekeeping field, as well as nurturing and providing care for her children and grandchildren. She loved gatherings with family and friends, she also enjoyed cooking meals and going on short trips.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers: Gene Richard, Clarence Lollis, Johnson Lollis, Virgil Richard, Ursel Richard, Reason Richard, and sister, Cora Richard. 

Bessie leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Dorothy Lollis, sons: Willie Lollis (Cheryl) and Earl Whitehead; grandchildren: Tamika Lester, Tamineca Lollis, Earl Whitehead Jr., Joseph Whitehead, La'Loni Whitehead, My'Trail Whitehead, and Mister K-Love Whitehead; great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Isaiah, Micah, Derion, and Juliann; niece, Shannon Richard, special friends: Hernice Willis, Sarah Waller, Oretha Nelams, Hattie McFrazier, Dorothy Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
