In Loving Memory of Ronald Edward Thornton

July 10, 1967 - July 1, 2018

Ronald "Ron" Thornton was born on July 10, 1967, in Los Angeles, California, to Melvin and Sandra Thornton. Ron was the oldest of two sons and an ideal big brother to Michael. Ron enjoyed playing baseball, football and was very studious. He attended school in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Susan Miller Dorsey High School, Class of 1985. He was proud to be a "Dorsey Don" and soon became a proudBruin when he chose to pursue his post-secondary education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned a bachelor of Science in Economics.

Ron became a member of the distinguished Brotherhood, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, Nu Delta Chapter on May 19, 1986. His membership proved to be a lifetime commitment as he held various elected offices including the Treasurer for the Western Region demonstrating his dedication to his beloved fraternity. In recent years, Ron became a Master Mason under St. John"s Lodge #5, Prince Hall Masons. His membership in both organizations was among Ron's proudest accomplishments.

Ron met his soul mate, Patrice McConnell, while in college and they later reconnected and were married on December 11, 1999, in Santa Monica, California. Ron for worked over twenty years in Finance and Accounting in the entertainment field with his most recent employer being Sony Pictures Entertainment. He enjoyed listening to music, attending concerts, traveling, and watching or attending sporting events to support his favorite teams: the UCLA Bruins, Oakland Raiders, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He and his wife opened up their home to all and they often entertained with Ron highlighting his renowned barbecue skills. Ron was mild tempered, kind and a generous person that everyone loved. He was very popular and was often approached wherever he went by strangers and acquaintances alike.

On July 1, 2018, God looked down and decided to call his child home. Ron was preceded in death by his Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law Mr. and Mrs. Tommy McConnell. We are saddened by his untimely departure and Ron will be greatly missed by all who celebrates his life. Those left to cherish his loving memories are: Wife, Patrice McConnell, Los Angeles, California; Parents, Melvin and Sandra Thornton of Los Angeles, California; Brother and Sister-in-Law, Michael and Shannon Thornton; Brother-in-Law, Tommy McConnell II of Los Angeles, California; Nephew and Niece, Garrison Thornton and Chloe Thornton of Los Angeles, California; Nephew, Malcolm McConnell of Malvern, Arkansas. In addition, he leaves a wealth of aunts, uncles, cousins, Fraternity and Masonic Brothers, Sorority Sisters, colleagues, classmates, and friends.
