Vernella Bernard was born July 11, 1934, in Baley, Oklahoma to James Barnett and Effie Barnett. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was currently a member under the leadership of Reverend Evans.
Vernella graduated from Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, CA; she furthered her education by attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College LVN East LA - RN.
Vernella met and married Lawrence Bernard, and to this union a son was born, Wendell Bernard. Vernella worked for Los Angeles County USC Medical Center as a Nurse (RN) for 50 years.
Vernella was a loveable and very kind person. Some of her favorite things to do were spending time with family and friends, going out to eat at her favorite restaurants, and shopping. She was very giving and always willing to be helpful to others. She always accepted people for who they were and never was quick to be judgmental; as a result, during her life, she was blessed with many friends and opportunities in life. She taught many people in her lifetime just be leading by example.
Those who preceded Vernella in death were mother, Effie Barnett, father, James Barnett, son, Wendell Bernard, uncles: William Carter, and Mosby; aunts: Bennie Edmund, and Helen Wilson.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter-in-law Cynthia Wyatt, grandchild, Damien Bernard, great-grandchild Darius Bernard, and special friends: Leticia Ruiz, Luretha McKelray, Geraldine Welch and Sandy Langston; she also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
