In Loving Memory of Evelyn  Jackson

June 3, 1929 - August 6, 2017

Evelyn Jackson was born June 4, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina to Arthur Polite Sr. and Wilhelmenia Suares Polite, both who preceded her in death. She attended Bruce High School in Charleston, South Carolina. Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and began her journey in Christ. Evelyn migrated to the state of New York where she met and married Isaac Jenkins. From this union, they had three daughters Renee Bowers, Zenola Powell, and Lorraine Alexander. Evelyn would eventually relocate to Southern California. She met and married Charles C. Jackson Sr. from this union; daughters Sheila Stewart, and Sylvia Jackson were born. On January 28, 1972, she joined the New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Lonnie L. Dawson. Evelyn was very active in the service of the church  where she served on the Mother's Board, was a member of the Women's department, served as the June birth month leader, and Women on Mission. Evelyn would become a member of the Woman's Council as well. She actively attended noon Bible study, Sunday school, and Grow Disciplineship Institute as well. She also sang in Choir #1 and the Sanctuary Choir. One of her favorite things to do was cooking. She really, really enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, extended family, and the church. She also enjoyed doing cross word puzzles, and traveling with her family.

She was bestowed the honor of New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Woman of the Year in 2005 and Ms. Christianity in 1990. She received Christian Service Awards from New Mt. Calvary in 1986 and 1989. She received Certificates of Appreciation from Compton Adult School and Eyes of the Hawk Karate for her support to those organizations.

Evelyn held many jobs in her 88 years. She worked in a laundry, made flowers, worked as crossing guard, a custodian, and a cook for the church. She also worked at United Healthcare and did in-home care. Her main job was being a wife and homemaker to her family.

On Sunday, August 6, 2017, Evelyn was called to the glorious rest of our Lord Jesus Christ. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles Jackson Sr., her brothers, Arthur Jr., and Earl Polite; daughter; Zenola Powell, and sister who did not survive infancy.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her loving memory, sister Loretta Freeman; brother Chester Arthur, Sister-in-law Muriel Polite; daughters Renee Bowers, Lorraine Alexander, Sheila Stewart, and Sylvia Jackson; sons, Charles C. Jackson Jr., Orlando Beard, and Daryl Landry; sons-in-law Patrick Bowers, Jr. and Kevin Alexander, daughter-in-law Althena Jackson; grandchildren Tonya, Zenola (Cookie), Denae"e, Tamika, Shawn, Adarien, Naima, Ja"Naya, Jonathan, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
