In Loving Memory of Alvine Franklin Drinkard

March 28, 1927 - May 1, 2017

Alvine Drinkard was born March 28, 1927, in Bryan, Texas to the parents of Kittie Jones and J.D. Franklin; she was an only child. Alvine was raised by a very special aunt, Alberta Johnson while her mother was attending Prairie View College.

Alvine began her primary education in Bryan, Texas and completed her High School education in Dallas, Texas; she then attended Prairie View College for a year. After moving to California she attended L.A. City College. Alvin began working as an attendant at General Hospital, where she met and eventually married Henry Norris. After a brief marriage and divorce to Mr. Norris she began studying and become an Orthopedic Technician.

Alvine transferred from General Hospital to Martin Luther King Hospital where she met Wiley Drinkard; they were married and they both continued to work for MLK Hospital until they retired. During this time she joined New Hope Baptist Church, attending BTU and worked with the Cub Scouts, under the leadership of Deacon Richardson and Brother McKinney; she worked with the Senior Mission and on the Solace Committee with Sister Carr and Sister Dora Wade. She also was a part of the Smiling Committee, and worked as a secretary for Ms. Crockett at Vacation Bible School. Alvine was active in these duties until her health prevailed.

Alvine leaves to mourn her passing, a special cousin, Joyce Williams of Compton, California, LaPettie Collier, Noland Turner of Dallas Texas, and a host of cousins and friends. She will truly be missed.
